For kicks and giggles, I recently took one of those Facebook tests asking if I’m a right brain or left brain dominant person (translation, creative or logical). Not surprisingly, it came back with my being right brain dominant. I’d be further curious to know the percentage of one over the other to tell how strongly dominant, but give it time and someone will design that Facebook test, too! The results, though I took the test for pure amusement, added explanation as to why I gravitate so strongly towards the arts, reading, writing, sewing & crafts, etc.
Where would you fall if you took that same test? If you already know you’re right brain dominant (creative), what do you do for yourself and your brain to exercise that side? I personally enjoy arts & crafts, primarily sewing, but also re-purposing items. If it involves power tools, all the better! Yes, I’m one of those weird females that enjoys a hardware or DIY store more than a clothing or shoe store. Is it wrong I know all my local hardware store staff by name and they know mine? I don’t think so… Anyway, getting back on track. If it’s easier for you to feed your creative side by scheduling time to do so, then check some options coming up in Delavan.
If you’ve ever wanted to do one of the multitude of Paint & Sips out there, but felt a little intimidated by them as far as skill set, being right brain and creative or not, here’s one that’s a little different. Pour & Sip is described as “a fun and fabulous technique that creates unique paintings you’ll love to do over and over again, with no two paintings ever being the same, and you’ll be amazed at the results”. This new workshop will allow you to create a beautiful 12″ x 12″ painting, while enjoying a cocktail or two and time with friends. It’s offered this Friday, Sept. 22, from 6 – 9 pm, at A Glass of Art & More, W8744 Lake Road, Delavan. Cost is $40/person, with discounts for groups of 4 or more, but space is limited to 12 people overall. You can register on their Facebook page (A Glass of Art & More) by clicking ‘going’ under the event listing.
If you’re not intimidated by the standard Paint & Sips, then The Watershed Saloon, 4009 S. Shore Drive, is offering a “Fall Harvest” version this Saturday, Sept. 23, from 12 – 3 pm. No experience is necessary, as you’ll be guided step-by-step through painting a 16″ x 20″ canvas that you can take home and proudly display that day. All supplies, aprons and first drink are included in the cost of $35/person. Reservations are required, so call them at 262.725.6445 and get your spot now! Suggestion is to plan for arriving 15-30 minutes early to get checked in, find a seat and get that first cocktail. Your creative time begins promptly at noon!
If your schedule is already full for this weekend, then on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 6 – 9 pm, Whiskey Ranch, at W9002 State Road 11, is having a Pallet Painting Party! How’s that for a canvas – a pallet! Specifically billed as a Packers/Bears Pallet Painting Party with the Packers/Bears football game being the next night, how fun to kick off the friendly rivalry like this! Cost is $35/person, includes supplies and a drink ticket for the game the next night. Come in your preferred team’s NFL wear, paint up a storm, take advantage of drink specials and win some giveaways! Call 262.882.2800 or stop in to reserve your spot!
If your creative side isn’t feeling the painting thing and might actually want more stimulation, then oh my goodness, this will do it! Thursday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 1, is the 2017 Sisters Shop Hop. Seven area shops are participating, with Needles ‘n Pins Yarn Shoppe (W9034 County Rd. A) and Studio S Fiber Arts (W8903 County Rd. A) representing Delavan. There will be demos, food, prizes and fun! From each shop there will be the chance to win a $100 gift basket full of goodies with items handpicked from that shop to help you “Make It Simple”. One lucky person will win a new Janome 3160 sewing machine as the grand prize of the event by simply visiting all seven shops, getting their ‘passport’ punched and turning it in when completed. I’ll certainly take a new sewing machine if someone tells me I won it! Hours for the Shop Hop are 10 am – 5 pm, Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 3 pm on Sunday. Plenty of time to get to all seven shops! Besides Needles ‘n Pins Yarn Shoppe and Studio S Fiber Arts representing Delavan, the Shop Hop includes Sawdust & Stitches in Elkhorn, Kari’s Sew Unique and Woodland Quilts in Whitewater, The Quilt Patch in Fort Atkinson, and Loose Threads in Milton. What a fun way to shop local and get inspired with new creative ideas!
I don’t know about you, but I’ve got my eye on at least a few of these great ways to keep the creative side of me going! Maybe I’ll see you at one or more of them, too!
