Lake Lawn Resort’s igloos provide cozy experience amid a winter wonderland
With the holidays in the rear-view mirror, and warmer weather still months away, igloo dining can be a great way to beat the winter doldrums with a unique opportunity to break bread with someone you care about.
Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan provides cozy comfort in the outdoors at its property, 2400 E. Geneva St. A combined 10 igloos are available this winter at the resort’s two main restaurants: 1878 on the Lake and The Lookout Bar and Eatery.
Brandon McConnell with Delavan Lake Lawn Management LLC, the resort’s parent company, said there are a number of reasons people have warmed up to igloos. They were commonplace during the pandemic’s social distancing practices, but have transcended COVID-era protocols.
A setting such as an igloo gives Delavan diners an opportunity to enjoy the company of other people in a distraction-free environment.
“Igloo dining is built for individuals, partners, and families to have long-standing, good conversation,” Brandon explains. “Normally, if you are just within restaurant proper, you’re seeing other tables, and you might be feeling that rush. You’re also dealing with other crowds and sounds and other sorts of distractions.”
Delavan visitors interested in a romantic evening, or an outing to catch up and enjoy the company of other people, might find an igloo an appealing option while enjoying a top-quality meal at a
venue such as one of Lake Lawn Resort’s restaurants.
“The igloo provides privacy,” Brandon says. “You could literally have a conversation with anyone about anything, which is super cool.”
There is another reason Brandon says people have clamored for igloos on the Lake Lawn Resort property — an opportunity to soak in nature’s beauty without the frigid winter experience mixed in.
“I think the biggest challenge we all feel in the Midwest, especially at this time of the year, is cabin fever,” Brandon says. “This gives you an opportunity to feel that you actually are outside.” While igloos, in their most traditional sense, might conjure up frigid thoughts, Brandon says the dome-shaped structures dotting the Lake Lawn Resort landscape are comfortable and climate- controlled.
“They’re all very well heated, and you can kick back and relax,” Brandon says. “You get out of that norm. Restaurants, in general, oftentimes don’t offer that experiential kind of dynamic that igloo dining does.”
Winter dining also means a night out on the town for Valentine’s Day. Delavan offers visitors a number of great opportunities for a memorable evening.
At Lake Lawn Resort, 1878 on the Lake is offering pre-fixed meals that are a collection of chef’s favorites, including seafood, steaks, and mini-course offerings.
“It gives everyone who has been to the resort, and to 1878 on the Lake, the opportunity to do something that is a little bit different,” Brandon says of the pre-fixed meals. “It has a different vibe, and a different feel.”
