Spoiler alert – Valentine’s Day is almost here! The date never changes, with it always being February 14, so there’s no excuse in getting caught off-guard that it’s in the coming week. You could be lucky like me with a way to always remember the date – my youngest daughter was born on February 14 and she won’t let me forget it!
So now that you’re aware or reminded or whatever that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, what are you going to do about it? Surprise! I’ve got some ideas for you – like dining, dancing, music, trivia, gift making, gift buying, overnight and long weekend kind of ideas. All available here, in Delavan WI. Let’s get to it!
With Valentine’s Day, February 14, falling mid-week on a Wednesday this year, that opens up the weekend prior and the weekend after as being part of the holiday time. In my opinion, that makes it easier to plan and schedule when to celebrate, given how busy people are these days. Looking at the weekend prior, this coming weekend by the way, Rosewood has two offers for sharing the love of the holiday. Friday, February 9, 6 – 9 pm, is their Valentine’s Day Wine Dinner, and Sunday, February 11, 11:30 am – 3 pm, is their ‘Heart & Soul’ Show & Brunch. Score big points this Valentine’s and do both! Think you know all there is to know about your significant other? Test that theory at ‘The Not So Newlywed Game’, Friday, February 9, 6:30 – 9:30 pm, at Delavan Lake Store. Sure to bring laughs and maybe a secret or two out in the open! I love a good glass of wine, but have never been the kind to know what wine best goes with what food. With Staller Estate Winery’s Valentine’s Inspired Wine & Dine, Sunday, February 11, 12 – 3 pm, I don’t have to worry about it! Their expertise in wine and food pairing makes sure it’s perfect.
If you’re a purist and you only celebrate Valentine’s Day on the day itself, February 14, then there are a couple of options for you. Lake Lawn Resort hosts their Valentine’s Sweetheart Dinner, 5 – 10 pm, at the Frontier Restaurant, where Chef Ross has created a special 4-course menu for two, along with the full dinner menu also being available. Hernandez Mexican Restaurant is offering Valentine’s Dinner for Two, with an All-You-Can-Eat Fajita Buffet, two shots of Tequila and Valentine’s Dessert. Add in a margarita (or two) and I’ll come join you!
For Valentine’s Day gift giving, Lubick Gallery & Gifts has 20% off any item with a heart on it or that is heart-shaped during their ‘Have a Heart’ Sale. Neki’s Hope is offering ‘Buy 3 Items, Get 70% off the 4th Item’ on clothing, costume jewelry, and souvenir items. You can also bring a touch of nostalgia to the day with what will become a treasured item of glassware from Remember When Antiques & Collectibles during their February special and get 10% off. If you want to give a handmade gift, then Wine Glass Painting at Hernandez Mexican Restaurant, Sunday, February 11, 11 am – 2 pm, is the ticket. You can even choose to paint a pair of wine glasses so you each have a special memory of the day. If you would like to add a bottle of wine to that painted wine glass, but you’re not sure what to get, then head over to Sonoma Cellars, Saturday, February 10, 2 – 4 pm, for their February Frolic Tasting Event. You’ll learn about wine, and craft beer and spirits, too.
The weekend after Valentine’s Day offers some options for celebratory dining as well. Hernandez Mexican Restaurant continues their Valentine’s Dinner for Two on Friday, February 16, through Sunday, February 18, 4:30 – 9 pm; Rosewood has their monthly Dine & Dance, with a Valentine’s feel, on Friday, February 16, 5:30 – 10:30 pm; and Lake Lawn Resort again hosts their Valentine’s Sweetheart Dinner, Saturday, February 17, 5 – 10 pm, which could be capped off with the N.E.W. Dueling Piano Guys, 9 pm – 12 am. They are also performing Friday, February 16, 9 pm – 12 am, and are said to be a performance not to miss!
Since the calendar gods have allowed for the weekend prior and the weekend after to be available for extended honoring of Valentine’s Day, how about making an overnight, long weekend or full on getaway out of it? Talk about scoring points on the romance meter! Comfort Suites – Delavan, offers their Stay 2 Nights, Get 15% Off Each Night or Stay 3 Nights, Get 20% Off Each Night Packages for you to extend the Valentine’s Day spoiling. Lake Lawn Resort has their Winter Escape Package, as well as adding Calladora Spa options with their Couples Getaway or Rest & Relaxation Retreat Packages. Also happening at Lake Lawn Resort, and in Downtown Delavan as well, the weekend of February 16 – 18, is the 5th Annual Sky Circus on Ice. With professional kite team performances on Delavan Lake (how else does it get called ‘…on Ice?!), expert snow sculpting and ice carving exhibition both at Lake Lawn Resort and Downtown Delavan, and a plethora of activities all weekend long, it’s sure to keep you hopping. Take advantage of the Sky Circus on Ice 2 Night and 3 Night Packages at Lake Lawn Resort to make it an extended getaway.
